Alan Breier, MD

Director of Psychiatry

Dr. Alan Breier is a senior Professor of Psychiatry, the Vice-Chair for Clinical Research, Chief, IU Psychotic Disorders Program, and the Director of the Prevention and Recovery Center for Early Psychosis (PARC). Dr. Breier received his medical degree from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed his residency at Yale University School of Medicine, and fellowships at NIMH’s Clinical Neuroscience Branch and Clinical Research Unit. Dr. Breier previously served as Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical at Eli Lilly and Company and had been with the company since first joining as Research Fellow in Lilly Research Laboratories in 1977.

Dr. Breier is involved in teaching medical students along with psychiatry residents and fellows at Larue D. Carter Memorial Hospital and PARC where he also supervises patient's clinical care. Dr. Breier goals of are strengthening and expanding the three missions of teaching, clinical effort, and research in the area of psychotic disorders. His extensive experience in academic, industry, and federal research environments provides a background that he hopes will facilitate the expansion of the psychotic disorders programs.  Additionally, Dr. Breier conducts research directed at testing innovative therapeutics for schizophrenia and elucidating the underlying disease process of psychotic disorders by implementing genetic analyses and brain imaging.
